About The Position

Arcadis is seeking a passionate and organized Community Engagement Coordinator to join our New York team, supporting the Second Avenue Subway project for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). In this dynamic role, you will lead stakeholder and community engagement efforts for one of New York City’s most transformative transit infrastructure projects. You will help plan and execute outreach activities, ensuring clear, transparent communication and meaningful community involvement across all phases of the Second Avenue Subway expansion. Reporting to the Senior Community Relations Manager, you will collaborate with residents, elected officials, advocacy organizations, and business leaders to build relationships, address concerns, and deliver timely updates on project developments. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, Public Policy, Communications, or related field.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in stakeholder engagement, community outreach, or public affairs.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with New York City communities and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Project).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience engaging with diverse populations, including non-English speaking and disadvantaged groups.
  • Prior work with city, state, or federal agencies and/or elected officials.
  • Exposure to construction environments, including basic understanding of construction phases and terminology.
  • Skills in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Spanish fluency.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Senior Community Relations Manager with planning and executing outreach strategies for major infrastructure projects.
  • Identify and map stakeholders to understand their interests, needs, and concerns.
  • Develop and distribute clear communication materials and key messages for diverse audiences.
  • Coordinate and facilitate public meetings, workshops, and outreach events throughout all project phases.
  • Engage directly with residents, elected officials, advocacy groups, and businesses to ensure consistent project updates and build relationships.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to questions, concerns, and feedback from stakeholders and community members.
  • Gather, consolidate, and report on stakeholder feedback to inform project planning and decision-making.
  • Support outreach activities such as phone calls, flyer distribution, and participation in community association meetings.
  • Collaborate with agency partners and project teams to obtain construction progress updates for sharing with stakeholders.
  • Ensure all communications are clear, accurate, and accessible, including for non-English-speaking populations.
  • Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to attend or staff outreach activities and public meetings.
