About The Position

The Community Engagement Coordinator builds and sustains relationships that strengthen the organization’s presence in the community. This role focuses on outreach, partnerships, volunteer engagement, and the development of meaningful community opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The position serves as a bridge between community members, volunteers, partner organizations, and people supported by The Arc of Howard County.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in community engagement, volunteer coordination, nonprofit outreach, or related field.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
  • Acceptable driving record required.
  • Successful completion of all required background checks, reference checks, and pre-employment screenings required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with local businesses, schools, civic groups, faith-based organizations, and community partners.
  • Represent the organization at community events, resource fairs, networking opportunities, and public presentations.
  • Identify and secure partnership opportunities that support community inclusion, volunteerism, employment exploration, skill-building, and social engagement.
  • Coordinate presentations, tours, and site visits to increase awareness of the organization’s mission and services.
  • Design and implement volunteer recruitment and retention initiatives.
  • Manage volunteer onboarding, orientation, screening, background checks, and role placement.
  • Track volunteer participation, hours, engagement, and retention metrics.
  • Collaborate with program staff to identify person-centered community opportunities for people receiving services.
  • Maintain databases of community resources, partnerships, volunteer activities, and outreach efforts.
  • Assist with newsletters, social media content, community communications, and outreach materials.
  • Prepare monthly reports related to outreach activities, volunteer engagement, partnerships, and community impact.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational goals.
  • Assist with procurement and inventory management of branded promotional items, event giveaways, and related supplies.
