About The Position

For 35 years, EnviroIssues has successfully led comprehensive community engagement, communications, facilitation, research, and graphic design programs for public agencies. We partner with our clients to design and implement strategies that effectively engage people in complex and often intersecting issues across transportation, land use, natural resources, utilities, housing, and public health. We work mainly in Washington and Oregon, with offices in Seattle and Portland. Our ideal candidate brings a commitment to supporting the success of our organization, clients, and the communities we serve. As a Community Engagement & Outreach Associate, you would work with project teams to develop and implement communications and community engagement efforts across multiple projects. You will have opportunities to be creative, utilize a variety of outreach and communications tools, and support projects across different sectors and phases. This position is based in our Seattle office. EnviroIssues is a hybrid work environment with some onsite work required.

Requirements

  • At least two years of experience planning and conducting community engagement activities, or community/public relations, or general communications
  • Experience, knowledge and interest in transportation, land use planning, water resources management, and/or climate change
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to juggle competing priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent written communications skills with experience in report writing, content development for the web, social media, fact sheets, meeting summaries, media, and/or developing key messages and talking points
  • High attention to detail and demonstrated experience proofing and reviewing draft materials to publish-ready standards
  • Strong oral communication skills and the ability to process information in a fast-paced consulting environment
  • Ability to understand technical and environmental concepts and share them effectively with a variety of audiences
  • Demonstrated research and data analysis skills, such as synthesizing quantitative and qualitative data in easy-to-understand formats
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and professionally in diverse, multi-cultural settings
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)

  • Previous consulting experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Draft public materials such as flyers, web content, social media posts, letters and mailers, public event materials, and responses to community questions via email
  • Maintain project databases tracking project contacts, communications, and activities
  • Plan and execute events such as public meetings, outreach booths, and briefings
  • Communicate with community members, including at events, over the phone, via email, and by distributing flyers to residents and businesses
  • Collaborate effectively with teams while working toward shared deadlines and goals
  • Record effective notes and prepare meeting and event summaries
  • Work closely with graphic designers and website developers on outreach materials
  • Support project managers and task leads to track deliverable status and completion
  • Support contract management activities such as monthly invoicing, contract amendments, and budget tracking
  • Work collaboratively to continually learn and adapt innovative tools to engage community
  • Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned
