About The Position

Community Energy Advisors help residents, multifamily property owners, and small businesses, especially in low-to-moderate income and priority communities, understand and use energy-saving and clean-energy options across the region. This work includes helping others navigate New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) programs and opportunities. The role involves sharing practical information, answering questions, helping people apply for energy-efficiency programs, and addressing challenges that may prevent them from improving the health, safety, and efficiency of their homes or buildings. Advisors also represent the program at community events, lead existing energy-education workshops, and build working relationships with local energy contractors. Community Energy Advisors work as part of a flexible team and responsibilities may shift based on organizational needs and new initiatives. Energy Advisors work primarily out of an office and frequently travel throughout the Capital Region to deliver programs and events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree. An Associate’s degree plus 2 years related experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Ability to meet the frequent travel requirements associated with this position.
  • A valid NYS driver’s license with the ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends.
  • Ability to effectively deliver assigned programs; meet program goals; and meet data collection and reporting requirements.
  • Technology Skills - Microsoft Office Suite, internet, Salesforce, and program related software.
  • Ability to relate to and communicate effectively with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience, education, or coursework in the energy field.
  • Bilingual, fluency in Spanish and/or other languages is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver existing energy-related outreach and education primarily through one-on-one phone calls, tables at community events, and workshops.
  • Collaborate with clean energy partners, human service providers, affordable housing providers, non-energy partners, third-party funding providers, philanthropic organizations, etc. to assist residents to access wrap-around (non-NYSERDA) services/resources.
  • Serve as subject matter resource; answer questions.
  • Foster acceptance of the program, methods, and policies.
  • Interact with program participants, local energy contractors, community groups, and others to deliver programs.
  • Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell or others.
  • Serve as an active member of the Capital Region Clean Energy Hub, engaging regularly with Hub leadership and community energy advisors from other community-based organizations to share knowledge, problem-solve, and identify opportunities to address participant energy needs.
  • Occasionally apply established subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans.
  • May assist in delivering innovative educational programs.
  • May assist in multidisciplinary team efforts to deliver programs.
  • Assist in evaluating the program and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Assist with other programs as assigned.
  • Assist in planning and managing assigned programs.
  • Assist in developing, expanding, and enhancing relationships for the program.
  • May assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise.
  • Coordinate participant engagements, workshops, trainings, events, and meetings.
  • Recruit program participants.
  • Set up events, displays, etc.
  • May assist in the development of marketing or other materials.
  • Assist supervisor with writing impact statements, articles, flyers, news releases, social media posts, etc.
  • Complete and submit all required reports, records, and documentation (e.g., program data, evaluation data, incident reports, expense reports, etc.) in a timely manner.
  • Maintain program participant information confidentiality.
  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
  • Aware of, and adheres to, established Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Albany County policies, procedures and Cornell Cooperative Extension Skills for Success.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the organization by performing all assigned duties in a professional, timely and accurate manner.
