About The Position

4-H is America’s largest youth development organization - empowering nearly six million young people with the skills to lead for a lifetime. 4-H connects youth to hands-on learning opportunities that help them grow into competent, caring, contributing members of society. The 4-H & Natural Resources Educator is responsible for delivering programs on topics including but not limited to 4-H Shooting Sports, the Wildlife Habitat Education Program, 4-H Adirondack Guide program, wild edibles, and other youth and natural resources programs. This position also assists with planning, managing, and coordinating programs and events (e.g., Youth Fair, environmental field days, State Teen Action Retreat (STAR)). The Educator serves as a subject matter resource and often partners with community organizations and others to reach the residents of Warren County. Programs are delivered primarily through schools, homeschool groups, afterschool programming, and special interest programs that meet the needs of the community. The Educator frequently collaborates in delivery of programs with other members of the CCE Warren team and colleagues in regional and statewide programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Associate’s degree plus 2 years transferrable program/functional experience may substitute for a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Ability to meet the regular travel requirements associated with this position.
  • A valid NYS driver's license with the ability to drive and driving record acceptable for Association insurance coverage are required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings, overnights and/or weekends, as appropriate.
  • Ability to effectively deliver related programs.
  • Serve as an effective subject matter resource.
  • Maintain program data confidentiality.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively market programs.
  • Proficiency with or ability to learn Microsoft Office suite, database, internet and virtual presentation software.

Responsibilities

  • Teach existing 4-H youth development programs as assigned.
  • Assist with other assigned programs as assigned.
  • Serve as subject matter resource; provide standard responses.
  • Foster acceptance of the program, methods, and policies.
  • Interact with program participants.
  • Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell or others.
  • Occasionally apply established subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans.
  • May assist in delivering innovative educational programs.
  • May assist in multidisciplinary or multi-association team efforts to deliver programs.
  • Assist in evaluating the program and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Assist in planning and managing assigned programs.
  • Assist in developing, expanding, and enhancing relationships for the program.
  • Assist supervisor with volunteer management.
  • Give guidance to volunteers and co-workers, including those performing similar work.
  • May assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise.
  • Coordinate assigned projects, programs, trainings, events, and meetings.
  • Set up rooms, displays, etc.
  • Recruit program participants.
  • Attend district and state 4-H events, transport and chaperone youth.
  • May assist in the development of marketing or other materials.
  • Assist supervisor with writing impacts statements, social media posts, etc.
  • Complete and submit all required reports, records, and documentation (e.g., program data, evaluation data, incident reports, expense reports, etc.) in a timely manner.
  • Maintain program participant information confidentiality.
  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
  • Aware of, and adheres to, established Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Warren County policies, procedures and Cornell Cooperative Extension Skills for Success.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the organization by performing all assigned duties in a professional, timely and accurate manner.
