About The Position

The 4-H Youth Development Program Assistant will work as a part of the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Livingston County 4-H Youth Development team to assist with the planning, coordinating, organizing, preparing for, and implementing 4-H Youth Development programs and events including county and state fairs. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience with events and activities associated with the 4-H Exhibit Building, 4-H Exhibit Judging Day, and 4-H Food Tent at the Hemlock Fair.
  • Availability June 18th - July 29th, 2026.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
  • Commitment to working with diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities developed with immediate supervisor.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and assume responsibility with general guidelines and direction.
  • Ability to adapt to changing programming and workplace priorities.
  • Must be dependable, flexible, and organized.
  • Must be a team player and work with a variety of CCE educators.
  • Ability to frequently work in outdoor weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.
  • Ability to work in a typical, outdoor, and fair environments which may include working in outdoor weather conditions with extreme heat or cold, precipitation on uneven ground; lift, move, or transport materials, positioning self (for example, pulling, bending, reaching, touching, kneeling, using hands to feel/reach) with or without accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of 4-H Youth Development Programs and related procedures.
  • Experience working with youth.
  • Some college experience preferred (related to youth development).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with delivering 4-H Youth Development educational programs. Specifically, activities as part of, the 4-H Exhibit Building, 4-H Exhibit Judging Day, and 4-H Food Tent during the Hemlock Fair.
  • Assist with delivering 4-H Youth Development educational programs. Specifically, activities as part of the 4-H animal shows and contests during the Hemlock Fair.
  • Participate in special events as assigned.
  • Utilize a variety of educational methods which may include direct teaching, group experiences, electronic technology, and internet to assist with delivery of programs, events, and activities.
  • Represent Cornell Cooperative Extension before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities as part of program delivery.
  • Maintain pleasant relationships with the public through a variety of contacts – walk-in office visitors, telephone, e-mail, and written correspondence; interaction with the fair public providing basic program, event, and activity information.
  • Assist with pre and post fair tasks primarily relating to the activities of the 4-H Exhibit Building, 4-H Exhibit Judging Day, and 4-H Food Tent during the Hemlock Fair. Tasks include assisting with planning, organizing, coordinating, preparations, entries, premiums, and awards.
  • Assist with the organization of state fair exhibit entries.
  • Serve as a support person for the 4-H Exhibit Building, 4-H Exhibit Judging Day, and 4-H Food Tent at the Hemlock Fair.
  • Assist with the setup and cleanup of the 4-H Exhibit Building, 4-H Exhibit Judging Day, and 4-H Food Tent at the Hemlock Fair.
  • Assist with copying, filing, and mailing tasks.
  • Use a computer, related software, and other standard office equipment.
  • Provides support for educators by preparing supplies for programming, completing forms, and filing in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected, accessed and/or maintained.
  • Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings as scheduled/required.
  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
  • Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
  • Represent Cornell Cooperative Extension to the public, community leaders, colleagues, volunteers, members of Cornell University faculty and staff, government officials and the general public in a professional manner.
  • Aware of, and adheres to, established Cornell Cooperative Extension Association policies, and procedures.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the organization by performing all assigned duties in a professional, timely, and accurate manner.
  • At all times act in a professional Customer Service manner including but not limited to business-like demeanor, tactful communications, cooperative, helpful, positive, and receptive manner.
