About The Position

Buckner Children and Family Services is seeking a Community Coordinator to join our Family Hope Center (FHC) team in San Antonio, TX. This role is strategic, focusing on facilitating, coordinating, and supervising activities, classes, and services that support Buckner Ministries and provide educational and empowerment services to families. The Community Coordinator will also be responsible for raising awareness for the FHC and acting as a liaison with community collaborators, civic groups, and businesses, aiming to bring hope to the lives of others.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required.
  • Minimum of two years of prior related experience in community-based services, crisis assistance, or direct social services.
  • Proficient working knowledge and understanding of applicable regulatory standards and requirements governing programs and services.
  • Ability to observe and make accurate assessments of situations and individuals, and determine appropriate action.
  • Excellent public speaking skills and ability to communicate professionally with a multi-ethnic population base.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Must demonstrate cultural understanding and ability to develop positive, trusting inter-cultural and interdenominational relationships based on previous cross-cultural experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of and/or work experience using community resources; awareness of community resources, including social services and health providers, is required.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate adult education programs focusing on financial literacy, parenting, employment soft skills, and spiritual development.
  • Requires jobholder to work before and after normal business hours, including some nights and weekends, as needed.
  • Ability to drive assigned vehicle(s) or personal vehicle with appropriate state license, providing proof of liability insurance, and be eligible for Buckner’s insurance. Must be age 21 or older to drive on behalf of Buckner.
  • Proficient working knowledge and ability to accurately and timely operate computer-related tasks with specific equipment and software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to use up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force continuously to move objects and/or people.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit, sometimes for prolonged periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all adult empowerment classes, including recruiting and training volunteers to lead classes.
  • Facilitate and teach FHC core classes such as Faith and Finance, Work Life, Jobs for Life, ESL, GED, Nurturing Parenting, and other approved curriculums.
  • Implement evidence-based curriculums with fidelity, aligning with the Family Hope Center framework.
  • Collaborate with community partners to enhance FHC programming, coordinate and execute community events, and assist with classes.
  • Organize FHC events and coordinate regular events at the FHC with community collaborators.
  • Collaborate with team members to create and host classes and workshops for community engagement through educational programming aligned with the FHC framework.
  • Work with Family Coaches to recruit participants for the Family Coaching program.
  • Maintain a master calendar of all FHC classes and distribute notices of activities and volunteer projects to program staff.
  • Provide oversight to volunteers in coordination with the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator, ensuring hours are documented and submitted.
  • Provide leadership, support, promotion, and direction to FHC programs by evaluating data from evidence-based curriculums (pre/posttest) and developing action plans using available resources, leadership, and volunteers.
  • Develop professional relationships with institutions and agencies providing education, job training, living skills, employment services, housing, and childcare to coordinate services for program participants.
  • Discuss client family needs with family coaches and team members to develop referral resources based on identified needs.
  • Ensure the implementation and accessibility of appropriate empowerment resources through networking and community resource awareness workshops.
  • Ensure program and services align with the Family Strengthening Framework and core programs, serving as a leader to ensure team understanding of the framework.
  • Develop and manage a system to coordinate on-site and off-site programs and facilitate communication among program sponsors/collaborators.
  • Assist program participants with accessing community resources.
  • Coordinate with the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator on organizing and implementing a comprehensive volunteer program.
