About The Position

Reporting to the Executive Director and the Assistant Director, the Harvard University Native American Program (HUNAP) Community Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the planning and execution of student programming and events, supporting recruitment and admissions efforts, as well as engaging with visitors and potential applicants. The Community Coordinator will promote and ensure community growth and development by facilitating student collaboration and success, and by supporting both program and overall university outreach efforts with potential applicants, individual students, student organizations, and partner departments, and programs. The Community Coordinator supports the planning and implementation of programming and events related to student activities, educational opportunities, partnership building, recruitment, and admissions. They will also be responsible for facilitating consistent communication and outreach to individual students, student groups, and, when necessary, faculty, staff, and partners. They are also responsible for ensuring quality and effectiveness of HUNAP programming by gathering constituent input and feedback that will be used in the development of program plans, projects, and events with the goal of increased student and community participation. Job duties will support creating a welcoming and open HUNAP environment that supports student development and success, and general program growth.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of related experience. Education beyond high school may count towards experience.
  • Understanding and deep engagement with issues affecting Indigenous peoples
  • Familiarity with the academic and social dynamics of highly selective universities, particularly in relation to the role these universities play in outreach and public service.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
  • Experience in higher education administration or program management is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams), web management, Zoom.
  • Adobe Creative Suite familiarity is preferred.
  • Experience with Canva and MailChimp is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute program events with the guidance of the Executive Director and the Assistant Director.
  • Execute logistics planning, arranging for the use of facilities, adhering to budget guidelines, and coordinating schedules and speaker arrangements for student-centered events.
  • Assists in identifying needed community engagement programs based on program goals.
  • Acts as the program liaison with student organizations, campus partners, and other university entities to ensure the successful execution of both HUNAP and co-sponsored events.
  • Work with other HUNAP staff members to create email communications for faculty, students, alumni, and the campus community.
  • Work with other HUNAP staff members to create and execute a social media communications strategy that will inform students of information and opportunities in a timely and effective manner.
  • Attracts potential students by answering inquiries from students and their families regarding admissions, academic programs, and resources.
  • Undertakes recruitment and outreach opportunities to Indigenous communities in conjunction with the Assistant Director and Admissions Teams across the University.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with various programs and departments while demonstrating cultural competency and promoting Indigenous perspectives.
  • Contributes to program goals by accomplishing related duties as required.
