About The Position

The Community Construction Liaison (CCL) serves as a key point of contact between project teams and the surrounding community across various infrastructure and construction projects throughout New York City and the surrounding boroughs. This role is responsible for ensuring clear, consistent, and proactive communication with residents, businesses, and stakeholders impacted by construction activities. The CCL works to minimize disruption by providing timely updates, addressing concerns, and coordinating outreach efforts to support community needs throughout all phases of construction. By maintaining a visible presence in project areas and fostering positive relationships, CCL promotes transparency, public awareness, and community trust while supporting compliance with outreach requirements and overall project success.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities.
  • OR High school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience in community work or community centered activities.
  • Professional experience in either public relations, politics, journalism, or communications, advocacy and an understanding of construction and local city government.
  • Valid Driver’s license as well as the ability to travel throughout the five boroughs of NYC.
  • OSHA Safety and Health, 10-hour NYCDDC Water Main Inspection Training

  • Detailed oriented and reliable, while demonstrating a high-level of interpersonal, diplomacy, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of constituencies and diverse communities; address sensitive and complex questions; handle conflict; and manage various tasks.
  • Ability to navigate intergovernmental relations, community engagement, and to communicate concisely and effectively across internal and external stakeholder communities is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct door-to-door surveys in the impacted community and keep everyone up to date regarding the project.
  • Address any / all inquiries / concerns/questions from a Community Resident.
  • Coordinate with businesses to lessen impacts and direct them to resources during construction.
  • Provide timely project updates and notifications to impacted businesses.
  • Walk the project site(s) to observe the construction activities, as well as its progress and note site conditions that should be flagged to the RE as potential community issues.
  • Prepare and distribute 72-hour notices before construction activity begins, and then again 24 hours before it starts.
  • Prepare and distribute weekly bulletins and quarterly or bi-monthly newsletters.
  • Prepare weekly reports for submission to the Outreach Coordinator on the project.
  • Maintain a daily log of Community Outreach efforts and activities, which may include internal and external meetings and / or disseminated outreach materials or issues.
  • Attend Business Improvement District (BID) Business/Merchant meetings, and Community Board (CB) meetings, such as monthly District Service Cabinet (DSC), Committee or General Board meetings for any CBs within project limits within a specific borough (as directed).
  • Keep record of the minutes for all Community Board (CB), Task Force / Stakeholder and any other meetings attended.
