The Role Supports regional initiatives and programs by promoting and engaging with members of the community at events and through other outreach and engagement channels.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and skill normally acquired through a Grade 12 education plus 1 year of customer service, public engagement, and program promotion experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Ability to engage with a diverse public, including responding to questions/concerns positively and respectfully.
  • Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.
  • Knowledge of community programs and services.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, and related legislation.
  • Ability to listen to/understand community members’ diverse range of concerns, feedback, issues, and opinions.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to participate as an effective team member.
  • Ability to communicate with regional staff/management (e.g., phone, in person, email).
  • Computer skills with ability to use Microsoft Office and online engagement platforms.
  • Ability to work varied hours to accommodate events, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to travel within Waterloo Region.
  • Must have a reliable means of transportation to get to events and bring materials and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Attends community events and meetings to promote regional programs, services, and initiatives and engage with community members to increase their understanding of services/programs.
  • Responds to general questions and redirects specific or complex questions to regional staff.
  • Solicits input and facilitates conversations to obtain feedback, including questions, concerns, and considerations regarding current and prospective programs and services.
  • Gathers, compiles, and enters feedback, concerns, and questions in databases or documents.
  • Assists with setup and takedown requirements at events, including transporting equipment and materials (e.g., display boards).
  • Participates in team meetings.
  • Provides input into engagement activities, materials, and resources.
  • Assists in updating resources.
  • Receives work assignments and resources from management.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
