About The Position

The Salvation Army Jasper/Newton County corps in Joplin, Missouri, is hiring a part-time Community Center Program Aide for 25 hours per week at a starting pay of $15.50 per hour. The role supports activities and operations at the community center, including recreation, meal service, volunteer assistance, and facility upkeep. Most work takes place indoors in a temperature-controlled environment, with some outdoor work in hot summer conditions. Employees may also be assigned other related duties.

Requirements

Good communication skills.
Able to read and write well.
Able to relate well with youth, children, and unhoused persons.
Able to communicate verbally with visitors and other employees.
Must hold a valid driver's license.
Must be able to obtain American Red Cross certification in CPR and First Aid.
Must be capable of performing the essential duties and regularly lifting up to 40 pounds.

Nice To Haves

Previous work in a community center environment is desirable.
Passing the Salvation Army motor vehicle record check is a plus.

Responsibilities

Oversee volunteers and visitors during community center activities.
Enforce community center rules as necessary.
Assist with kitchen operations, including processing grocery donations and meal service.
Assist with leagues, rentals, and other recreational opportunities.
Mediate disputes among participants when necessary, with sensitivity to the needs of all parties.
Set up and take down work and play areas before and after activities.
Assist with planning community center special events.
Assist with custodial upkeep throughout the community center.
Train volunteers and visitors in the care and use of equipment and facilities.
Maintain and organize gymnasium supplies and equipment.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
