About The Position

The Salvation Army is seeking a Community Center Front Desk Receptionist for its Harbor Light location. This role is responsible for ensuring that activities and people using the Community Center feel welcome and are kept in a safe and organized environment. The receptionist will enforce facility policies and guidelines, greet and direct visitors, perform clerical duties, maintain cleanliness in the front entrance and desk area, answer phones promptly, and report any problems or discrepancies to the Community Center Director. The work environment may involve interacting with clients who exhibit challenging behaviors, and employees are expected to respond within the context of a church environment, maintaining appropriate conduct and interactions.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • At least two years' experience in secretarial and office work.
  • Experience with computer operation.
  • Experience with supervision.
  • Ability to work flexible hours depending on programming.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment and PC.
  • Ability to walk up two flights of stairs.
  • Ability to lift up to 75lbs.
  • Ability to work with clients that have poor social skills, suffer from mental illness, and have substance abuse problems.
  • Excellent grammar, writing, proofreading and punctuation skills.

  • An interpersonal style that is service oriented as well as anticipates and responds to the needs of client departments.
  • A flexible style that also displays a willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Staff the front desk at all times and maintain an account of who is in the Community Center.
  • Answer the door and telephone pleasantly and professionally, welcoming callers and visitors and directing them appropriately.
  • Accurately answer questions from people entering the facility and on the phone, conducting research when necessary.
  • Take and deliver accurate messages in a timely manner.
  • Prepare the cooler for donated food distribution in the morning and clean it in the evening.
  • Ensure all Corps and Community Center statistics are reported accurately and on time to the Community Center Director.
  • Ensure agency policies and procedures are followed by all persons entering the Community Center.
  • Maintain stock of office, warming kitchen, and Corps supplies, ordering as necessary and maintaining a list of needed supplies.
  • Complete clerical duties including copying, making calls, sending emails/letters, collating, and managing bulletin boards.
  • Maintain confidentiality for individuals meeting with a pastor or social worker.
  • Keep Information tables stocked, organized, and clean.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitized front reception area, including the desk, computer, vacuuming rugs, and cleaning windows.
  • Assist in the pantry as needed, following directives for daily operation.
  • Assist with Christmas fundraising and services as needed, including driving, mailing, organizing, working with volunteers, assisting with parties, and taking applications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
