About The Position

The Community-Based Work Experience (CBWE) role provides individuals receiving services through Newport Mental Health (NMH) and authorized by the Rhode Island Office of Rehabilitation Services (ORS) with a structured, temporary, and paid opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a community employment setting. The CBWE is intended to help participants explore career interests, build workplace confidence, develop job readiness skills, and prepare for competitive community employment.

Requirements

Active participant in NMH services.
Authorized by ORS for a CBWE opportunity.
Interest in developing employment skills and exploring community-based work options.
Ability and willingness to participate in a structured work-based learning environment.

Responsibilities

Participate in assigned work activities and job duties at the host worksite.
Arrive on time, maintain regular attendance, and communicate appropriately about scheduling needs.
Follow workplace policies, procedures, safety expectations, and supervisor direction.
Demonstrate professional behavior, respectful communication, and willingness to learn.
Work collaboratively with host-site supervisors, coworkers, NMH staff, and ORS representatives.
Accept coaching and feedback to strengthen job-specific skills and workplace readiness.
