The Spur's health education and lifelong food solutions (SHELFS) program at CSU Spur focuses on public health advocacy and community engagement to reduce chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes and related cardio-metabolic diseases. This program will implement a community randomized controlled crossover study involving various public health activities. The Community Assistant will collaborate with Dr. Ryan and CSU students to recruit households/families from GES neighborhoods and actively participate in the program weekly. Responsibilities include assisting families in cooking workshops, outdoor recreation, and general environmental public health education. The role also involves learning research protocols and contributing to the creation of SHELFS materials for the community and with CSU Extension staff. Activities may occur during evening hours, both on and off the Spur campus. Access to personal transportation is recommended and preferred.
