About The Position

Cable Station employees are required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government secret level security clearance as a condition of employment. This position is located in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the candidate must be bilingual in Spanish and English. The role involves power safety operations and coordination, storm duty, Tier 1 field technical support, operations and maintenance at Cable Stations, outside plant inspections, cable patrols, cable locating and marking, and repair of shore-end and land cable links. It also includes oversight and access control roles to enforce contractor and visitor compliance with corporate safety and security guidelines, and interfaces with other companies for provisioning, maintenance, and emergency repair work. The technician will utilize company procurement tools, wear personal protective equipment, and perform basic maintenance on diesel generators and air conditioning systems. Responsibilities also include providing verbal and written activity reports and collaborating professionally with various internal and external stakeholders. In situations where a security clearance is required and the employee has not yet obtained it, the employee will work under the oversight and escort of more experienced personnel.

Requirements

  • Must be bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government secret level security clearance.
  • Basic understanding of the Air Condition System.
  • Ability to work on the electrical and mechanical portions of the Air Condition System.
  • Ability to read and interpret meter readings.
  • Ability to transfer from one AC system to another.
  • Ability to manually start and stop diesel emergency generators.
  • Ability to read and interpret all meters on control panel.
  • Ability to perform basic repair and maintenance on generators.
  • Ability to switch office loads from one diesel to another at the Switchgear panel.
  • Ability to read and interpret all meters on the Switchgear and Generators.
  • Ability to manually operate all AC circuit breakers.
  • Understand and follow all safety procedures involved in AC power.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and maintain a U.S. Government secret level security clearance.
  • Perform power safety operations and coordination between landing stations and with cable repair vessels.
  • Participate in storm duty, starting before local conditions deteriorate and extending for the duration of the severe weather event.
  • Provide Tier 1 field technical support, operations, and maintenance at Cable Stations.
  • Conduct outside plant inspections, cable patrols, cable locating and marking, and repair of shore-end and land cable links.
  • Perform oversight and access control roles to enforce contractor and visitor compliance of corporate safety and security guidelines.
  • Interface and coordinate provisioning, maintenance, and emergency repair work with other companies, work centers, and repair vessels.
  • Obtain, maintain, and utilize company procurement tools, including company credit cards.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment, tools, and safety materials per company best practices.
  • Manually start and stop diesel emergency generators, read and interpret meters, and perform basic repair and maintenance.
  • Switch office loads at the Switchgear panel, read and interpret meters on Switchgear and Generators, and manually operate AC circuit breakers.
  • Understand and follow all safety procedures involved in AC power.
  • Work on the electrical and mechanical portions of the Air Condition System, performing maintenance and basic repairs.
  • Read and interpret meter readings and transfer between AC systems.
  • Provide verbal and written activity reports, completion reports, maintenance reports, or progress reports.
  • Collaborate and communicate liberally, openly, and professionally with cable station personnel, Technical Support, Engineering, Provisioning, Maintenance, Supply Chain, work centers, and other business units.
  • Observe established processes and best practices.
  • Seek professional advice from cable station peers, management, and associated technical support personnel when in doubt.
  • Work under the oversight and escort of more experienced personnel if a security clearance is required and not yet obtained.
