About The Position

The Communications Engineering Technician is responsible for overseeing the installation, implementation, testing, and labeling of a comprehensive campus communications system, including fiber optic networks, CAT6 voice & data cabling, Wi-Fi, DAS, ACS, IDS, Security cameras and multiple USSS Security systems. This role ensures the efficient, secure, and compliant installation of communication infrastructure to support the enterprise’s networking, telephony, and data transmission needs with daily field inspections, contractor evaluations, and collaboration with government personnel to support mission-critical projects. The ideal candidate will have experience working in federal government environments, and the ability to operate within a Top-Secret security framework. Fusion is seeking a Communications Engineering Technician to provide technical oversight, quality control, and infrastructure compliance. The Engineering Technician will support infrastructure assessments.

Requirements

  • Active Secret (S) clearance required; Top-Secret (TS) clearance preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain clearance at the necessary level for assigned duties.
  • Experience with fiber optic splicing, structured cabling, VoIP, and telephone system management
  • 5 years of experience in, communications infrastructure, implementation, construction quality control, or infrastructure management (preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of civil, mechanical, and electrical construction principles
  • Familiarity with federal construction regulations, NEC, OSHA, and safety compliance standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience in fiber optic network design, CAT6/6A cabling, and telephony systems
  • Familiarity with network switching, routing, and structured cabling standards
  • Strong knowledge of testing and troubleshooting tools (OTDR, Fluke testers, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Information Technology, Construction Management, or a related field
  • Experience with DoD construction projects, military facilities, or government contracting
  • Certification(s) in BICSI RCDD, FOA, or equivalent
  • Active Construction Quality Management for Contractors (CQM-C) certification

Responsibilities

  • Review and enforce construction drawings, including quality control
  • Conduct site inspections to evaluate conditions, recommend improvements, and oversee contractor execution
  • Ensure projects comply with federal, DoD, and engineering standards for safety and performance
  • Manage the three-phase control quality management process to verify compliance at all project stages
  • Review the design, engineering, and oversee the deployment of fiber optic and structured cabling systems (CAT6, CAT6A, and future upgrades) across the new construction and existing facilities
  • Review and oversee the implementation of communications distribution plans that meets industry standards (TIA/EIA, BICSI, NEC, IEEE, as well as several federal government entities, among others)
  • Oversee the installation of telephone communications, including VoIP, Wi-Fi, Security ACS, IDS & Cameras as well as some legacy systems, ensuring seamless connectivity
  • Assess campus-wide needs for network bandwidth and security, ensuring scalability for future growth
  • Ensure that all standards for pathways, cable management, racks, and distribution points have been installed for optimized performance
  • Assist in the development of training programs for ET staff on structured cabling, fiber optic technologies, and telephony systems
  • Ensure construction activities adhere to environmental, safety, and federal regulations
  • Develop and maintain technical reports, engineering documentation, and QAQC compliance records
  • Create and maintain a QAQC Tracking List with dates and details of all incidents found and noted
  • Participate in meetings, site briefings, and contract performance reviews to provide technical insight
  • Ensure compliance with industry codes and government regulations, such as TIA/EIA, BICSI, NEC, IEEE, OSHA, and local building codes
