Job Summary Responsible for performing routine plant maintenance, troubleshooting calls, surveys, locates, outage repair, track and repair Cumulative Leakage Index (CLI), power supply maintenance, and construction maintenance in accordance with Company procedures and practices. Will be called upon to troubleshoot and resolve service failures related but not limited to Company services such as Video (analog and digital,) Comcast Digital Voice (CDV,) and Comcast High Speed Data (CHSI) inclusive of Home Networking and Home Plug. Prefer candidates who have the skills learned from Communications Technician 3, Installation & Service and above. This is a driving role. This role requires the ability to work on call, overnights as needed, and within a flexible schedule. This position can report out of the following locations: • 2930 State St, Quincy, IL • 1504 E. Jackson St., Macomb, IL • 3409 Freedom Dr., Springfield, IL

Requirements

  • Minimum of twelve months cable telecommunications, broadband, or similar experience.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance.
  • Technical Operations: Experience maintaining and repairing telecommunications, broadband, fiber, or cable network infrastructure while ensuring reliability, quality, and operational excellence.
  • Troubleshooting: Ability to identify root causes of network and service interruptions, analyze technical issues, and implement effective solutions with minimal supervision.
  • Customer Service: Demonstrates a customer-first mindset through professional interactions, clear communication, and timely resolution of service-impacting issues.
  • Electrical Safety: Maintains a strong safety focus when working around energized equipment, aerial facilities, and outdoor environments while adhering to applicable safety regulations and company procedures.
  • Possess knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and various state and local codes including G.O. 95 and G.O. 128, (when applicable).

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine plant maintenance, troubleshooting calls, surveys, locates, outage repair, track and repair Cumulative Leakage Index (CLI), power supply maintenance, and construction maintenance in accordance with Company procedures and practices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve service failures related to Company services such as Video (analog and digital), Comcast Digital Voice (CDV), and Comcast High Speed Data (CHSI) inclusive of Home Networking and Home Plug.
  • Troubleshoot on analog and digital optics to support connectivity to the node, remote OLT/vBNG, or OLT, and channelized and non-channelized optical signals using software and application-based tools.
  • Isolate and resolve fiber optic signal impairments for Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) and Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) networks.
  • Perform inspections of fiber optic equipment during troubleshooting, such as connectors, patch panels, optical splitters, attenuators, etc.
  • Perform construction maintenance duties such as splices aerial/underground coaxial cable and equipment to restore cable plant to system specification.
  • Splice and activate new coaxial plant as required.
  • Repair and/or replace damaged aerial/underground plant.
  • Inspect, repair and/or replace power supplies as necessary.
  • Respond to damage scenarios and initiate fixes and/or communicate and arrange appropriate fix agents through collaboration with other departments such as Construction, Head End, Operations, and others to resolve complex network issues.
  • Perform CLI ride-out and track and repair leakage as necessary.
  • Check in each job in a timely manner to ensure all details of the work are recorded for entry in the customer's account once the work is complete.
  • Complete associated paperwork with each work order as required.
  • Respond to and repair service interruptions during regular business hours, shift work or when "On calls" as required.
  • Clean, maintain and stock vehicle and equipment to be prepared for daily responsibilities.
  • Properly operate and maintain vehicle, tools, and equipment.
  • Report need for vehicle repair or service when required and/or prescribed.
  • Report any accidents, losses, injuries or property damage to supervisor and customer when appropriate.
  • Drive company vehicle in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Work and travel in inclement weather.
  • Comply with safety procedures and requirements.
  • Use basic cable test equipment.
  • Perform work near power lines and electricity.
  • Use basic cable installation tools and hand tools, including a hand shovel.
  • Manipulate connectors, fasteners, wire; use hand tools.
  • Manipulate objects such as pens, keyboard, and mouse.
  • Apply knowledge and skills of training on the job in order to prepare for promotion to the next level.
  • Complete required training in accordance with Company standards.
  • Considered essential personnel during larger customer impacting events such as major storms or large-scale events that impact.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
