About The Position

The Sioux Lookout First Nations Communications Summer Student will support a variety of digital communications and media activities, including social media content creation, website content updates, digital marketing support, photography, graphic design, and multimedia communications. The student will assist with developing and sharing digital content across SLFNHA communication platforms and support community engagement through online communications tools and technologies.

Requirements

  • Exceptional organization and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience or interest in social media content creation, digital communications, and online platforms.
  • Advanced technical skills in website content updates, photography, graphic design, and computer applications including word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently in a demanding and fast-paced work environment.
  • Must be willing and able to travel.
  • Ability to perform the job on a regular basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment).
  • The ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects in the Sioux Lookout Zone is an asset.
  • Knowledge of website content management, digital storytelling, multimedia communications, or content creation software is an asset.
  • Knowledge, awareness, and sensitivity of Anishinaabe culture and tradition as it pertains to SLFNHA’s geographical catchment area is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with social media content creation, scheduling, and monitoring.
  • Support website content updates and digital communications activities.
  • Assist with digital marketing and online engagement initiatives.
  • Create digital graphics, photos, and multimedia content for SLFNHA communication channels.
  • Support media monitoring and digital communications reporting.
  • Provide general and administrative support to the Communications team.
  • Other duties as required.
