About The Position

We are hiring a Communications Specialist to support stakeholder engagement and communications for the U.S. Department of Energy. This is a federal contractor role working directly with senior executive leadership. As a contractor, this individual writes and edits communications products and helps coordinate external engagement opportunities for senior government officials. The Communications Specialist will be part of an Akoya team reporting to a contract manager. This role is ideal for an experienced stakeholder engagement and communications professional with exceptional writing, external affairs, and strategic communications skills who is comfortable working alongside senior government leaders in a fast-paced environment in Washington, DC.

Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree and at least seven years of experience. Alternatively, must have a master’s degree in a relevant field and five years of experience.
  • U.S. citizenship is required with verbal and written fluency in English
  • Ability to receive and maintain a federal security clearance (public trust level)
  • Must be based in Washington, D.C. This onsite role will report to the federal client location daily.
  • Strong project-management skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously
  • Familiarity with responsible AI principles and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, for diverse audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior federal contracting experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the federal client’s management of external engagements and events.
  • Route invitations, inquiries, and speaker requests to appropriate points of contact and track responses.
  • Maintain engagement calendars, trackers, and databases.
  • Coordinate with the communications team to develop talking points and other communications products.
  • Prepare briefing materials, agendas, and read-ahead packets for leadership.
  • Manage end-to-end event logistics for confirmed speaking engagements, including scheduling, travel, venue requirements, audiovisual setup, communications collateral, and coordination with event organizers.
