About The Position

The Massachusetts Port Authority is seeking a Communications Specialist (Bargaining Unit, Local Union No. 25) to join their dynamic organization. This role is crucial in managing critical communications and dispatch resources for both routine and emergency situations across Massport properties. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced, high-stakes environments where safety and operational continuity are paramount. They must be able to make quick, sound decisions, communicate clearly with diverse stakeholders, multitask, maintain situational awareness, and adapt to changing conditions to ensure accuracy and compliance. The position involves overseeing gate and aircraft parking plans, monitoring systems, coordinating with agencies like the FAA and Massport Operations, issuing reports, communicating field conditions, and responding to alarms and security system alerts while adhering to TSA and Massport protocols.

Requirements

  • Must meet one of three eligibility paths: Bachelors Degree and related aviation work experience; Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Management and related aviation work experience; or Public Safety Dispatcher Certification and related experience.
  • Possess strong technical and communication skills.
  • Ability to qualify in four separate areas: Card Access; Gate Control; Operations; and Fire Alarm dispatch.

Responsibilities

  • Manage critical communications and dispatch resources for routine and emergency situations, ensuring timely and accurate response across Massport properties.
  • Oversee gate and aircraft parking plans, monitor systems for compliance, and maintain accurate records to support safe and efficient airport operations.
  • Coordinate with FAA, Massport Operations, and partner agencies to issue reports, communicate field conditions, and address operational or safety concerns.
  • Monitor security systems, respond to alarms, and maintain compliance with TSA and Massport protocols while supporting emergency response and training new team members.
