About The Position

The Communications Specialist at P.K. Yonge will be responsible for developing and managing the institution's digital and print communications. This includes creating and implementing an editorial calendar, publicizing faculty research and outreach events, and directing the preparation of official publications such as the Florida Developmental Research School Annual Board of Governors’ Report and the P.K. Yonge Annual Report. The role also involves managing printed materials to ensure brand consistency, preparing submissions for the College of Education Annual Report, and serving as the primary liaison with the College of Education News and Communications and Development Office. Additionally, the specialist will prepare specifications for printing bids, administer printing contracts, and provide technical editing advice. This position is also responsible for alumni association and School Advisory Council communication, as well as managing school communications during crises. The role will lead and manage P.K. Yonge information services, including the school website, and act as the press officer in coordination with UF central communications. A key responsibility is managing the school’s social media plan and internal/external communications plan, drafting communications for leadership, and assisting with regularly scheduled newsletters and admissions outreach. The specialist will also assist with communication and print materials for the school’s capital campaigns, including consulting on campaign activities and overseeing the production of related materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Create and consistently implement an editorial calendar to inform internal and external stakeholders
  • Create and consistently publicize information about faculty research and research partnerships and outreach events
  • Direct the preparation of yearly high-profile, official publications including the Florida Developmental Research School Annual Board of Governors’ Report, P.K. Yonge Annual Report
  • Direct the preparation of printed materials to ensure consistency of style, presentation, and adherence to brand guidelines
  • Prepare submissions for College of Education Annual Report
  • Serve as primary liaison with College of Education News and Communications and Development Office
  • Prepare written specifications for bids and negotiates and administers printing contracts
  • Provide technical editing production advice in the preparation of administrative publications, school publications, and policy documents
  • Responsible for alumni association and School Advisory Council communication
  • Responsible for school communications during times of crisis, including weather and health-related emergency situations
  • Direct the design, development, and maintenance of the school website (serving both local school population and professional/research/outreach population)
  • Responsible for providing information, data, and timely reports/information to the school community, the public, the press, governmental agencies
  • Prepare and distribute regular school community emails (students and families, alumni, professional)
  • Provide monthly submissions to the College of Education EduGator newsletter
  • Act as press officer in coordination with UF central communications and UF Emergency Management
  • Direct/manage school’s social media plan, adoption, and implementation
  • Direct/manage the internal and external communications plan
  • Draft communications for school director and principals
  • Assist with preparation and distribution of regularly scheduled newsletters
  • Collaborate with admissions staff to engage prospective students and families
  • Consult, participate, assist in the institution’s capital campaign activities
  • Oversee production of capital campaign materials
  • Participate on efforts to engage private support for the school’s capital campaign under the direction of the school Director and College of Education’s development officer
  • May plan and direct programs to enhance public acceptance and participation in private support for the school/university.
