About The Position

The communications specialist supports the Foundation’s work by producing clear, compelling, and mission-driven content that highlights the impact of its grants and elevates the voices of grantees and communities. Working as part of a small, collaborative team, this role helps bring the Foundation’s grantmaking to life across digital channels, including social media, web, and e-newsletters, and connects individual stories to the Foundation’s broader efforts to fight poverty and build strong, vibrant communities. This is a hands-on role for a strong writer and emerging content producer who is curious, resourceful, and comfortable gathering stories both in the office and in the community. The communications specialist develops content from idea to execution, including writing, capturing, and producing photos and videos, as well as managing day-to-day content publishing across platforms to ensure consistent, high-quality communications that engage key audiences.

Requirements

  • Two to four years of experience in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field, with a demonstrated ability to produce compelling content across formats, including social media, newsletters, and web.
  • Experience managing or supporting organizational social media accounts, including content scheduling and basic performance tracking, and are comfortable working in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences and platforms and produce clear and compelling content that adheres to The Associated Press Stylebook .
  • Proficiency in major social media platforms and content scheduling tools.
  • Familiarity with content management systems and email marketing platforms, and ability to interpret basic analytics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar tools required; basic video editing skills for short-form social content preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Produce engaging, mission-aligned content for social media, web, e-newsletters, and other digital platforms.
  • Identify, develop, and tell stories that highlight grantees and connect their work with the Foundation’s broader priorities.
  • Write and edit clear, compelling content across formats to support external communications.
  • Capture and produce photos and videos, including short-form content using mobile tools.
  • Attend events, site visits, and community engagements to gather stories, visuals, and perspectives, and create content for real-time and follow-up communications.
  • Build relationships with colleagues and partners to surface and develop strong storytelling opportunities.
  • Write, schedule, and manage day-to-day publishing across the Foundation’s social media platforms, ensuring consistency in voice, tone, and quality.
  • Support the development and distribution of the Foundation’s e-newsletter.
  • Collaborate with communications team members to execute content and campaign priorities.
  • Provide support for events and special projects as needed.
