The role is responsible for developing and executing advanced communication strategies within Academic Affairs that support Denver Health's academic mission, brand and strategic objectives. This role manages complex projects, creates high-impact content for both internal and external audiences and ensures consistent messaging across various channels. The Communications Specialist works closely with key stakeholders in the Office of Research, the Office of Education, and across the organization to support initiatives related to highlighting academic programs and activities, promoting academic achievements of Denver Health faculty and staff, facilitating academic partnerships, and decreasing barriers for researchers and learners. This includes internal and external communications, executive communications, patient communications, research communications, marketing, media relations, crisis communications, and employee engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Communications, Journalism or related field required.
  • 4-6 years related work experience with extensive writing required.
  • strong written word and design skills, with the ability to clearly convey information to multiple different stakeholders.
  • Mastery of AP style.
  • Skilled in video shooting and editing.
  • Self-starter and independent thinker who works with limited supervision and guidance.
  • Excellent communication skill.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Service-oriented working style, excellent organizational abilities, and strong interpersonal skills are required.
  • Good judgment/ ability to work cooperatively and in a mentoring role in an integrated team environment.
  • Familiarity with content management systems like Sharepoint and Drupal; as well as comms platforms like Mailchimp and Meltwater

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes comprehensive academic communication plans that align with Denver Health’s strategic priorities.
  • Ensures that internal and external resources and presentations are up-to-date, aligned, impactful, and user-friendly.
  • Creates high-quality, audience-specific content for a variety of platforms, including internal communications, sharepoint, social media, press releases, website, executive messaging and marketing campaigns.
  • Leads editorial planning and content calendar development, ensuring a cohesive approach to storytelling across all channels, including the external academic affairs website.
  • Produces a monthly newsletter and manages the distribution list. Also monitors data on open rates, click rates and general growth of this external product.
  • Serves as the final set of eyes on all internal and external collateral, ensuring accuracy, clarity, consistency and adherence to brand and AP style guidelines. Provides copyediting, proofreading and quality control for marketing and communication materials.
  • Supports the health system’s Public Information Officer (PIO) by assisting with media inquiries, drafting press materials and supporting proactive media pitches to enhance Denver Health’s academic profile through earned media; this role partners with the PIO and is not expected to serve as the primary media contact initially.
  • Provides media support during academic events or announcements, including drafting or copyediting key messages and talking points.
  • Contributes to social media, including content creation and posting to promote research and education at Denver Health.
  • Helps with executive communications when needed, including ppt presentations.
  • Attends events and represents Denver Health externally.
