About The Position

Serve as a Communications Specialist II at the Operations Desk in the State's Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Fusion Center; operate and monitor an all-hour central communications control center and serve as a criminal analyst. Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Experience working with the general public
  • Relevant dispatch or analytical experience
  • Ability to communicate information accurately
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions
  • Ability to function effectively during emergencies, stressful situations, and periods of heavy communication traffic
  • Must be able to communicate on the radio and phone
  • Must be able to effectively operate a computer and use a variety of databases to locate and share information with requesting agents/agencies
  • Willingness and/or ability to work night shift, including holidays and weekends

  • A Bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for SLED assets.
  • Receive and process requests for SLED assistance from law enforcement agencies.
  • Gather appropriate information from requestor and notify SLED assets of requests in a timely manner.
  • Record information received from requestor electronically.
  • Maintain communications with deployed SLED assets for operational safety purposes.
  • Receive and process analytical requests for assistance from criminal justice agencies.
  • Gather pertinent information from requestor, analyze request, process it using a variety of databases available, and return information to requestor.
  • Record request received from requestor electronically.
  • Receive calls from citizens requesting assistance, making complaints against local police and SLED personnel and route appropriately.
  • Monitor all hotlines and process information received appropriately.
  • Maintain and respond to hit requests on NCIC files for SLED and validate per NCIC policy.
  • Ensure OD receives and re-broadcasts BOLOs (Be on The Lookout) and other administrative messages as needed.
  • Ensure OD broadcasts BOLOs to support the mission of SLED.
  • Maintain situational awareness by monitoring BOLOs, news channels, video feeds, radio traffic, and other sources of information.
  • Share vital information received with Fusion Center staff and SLED Command Staff as needed.
