About The Position

The Visual Communications Specialist advances Normandale Community College’s marketing, enrollment, and reputation goals by developing, coordinating, and disseminating institutional information in a clear, accessible, and purposeful manner. The position exercises professional judgment in shaping messaging, advising on communication approaches, and ensuring information is effectively communicated to diverse audiences. Serving as a communications resource to campus stakeholders, the position collaborates with leadership and subject‑matter experts to translate complex institutional programs and initiatives into clear, accurate, and engaging public‑facing information across print, digital, and multimedia platforms. The role supports cohesive institutional messaging, provides guidance on communication effectiveness and accessibility, and coordinates projects and resources that enhance public understanding and engagement with Normandale’s mission and priorities. This position will actively advance the college’s strategic goals, including achieving equity in educational outcomes and supporting a culturally responsive and service-oriented culture, through individual and departmental efforts.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional‑level experience in communications, marketing, graphic design, visual communications, or a closely related field, demonstrating the ability to independently develop and implement communication products or strategies.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Strong understanding of typography, color theory, and visual composition.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy under pressure.
  • Experience producing and coordinating print and digital materials such as posters, flyers, postcards, and signage.
  • Proven communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse campus partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, marketing, communications, or related field with additional relevant experience.
  • Experience developing brand kits, templates, and DIY resources for non-design users.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards for digital and print media.
  • Familiarity with project management or ticketing systems (e.g., TDX).
  • Experience coordinating with external vendors for printing and production.
  • Ability to take initiative and propose creative solutions aligned with strategic goals.
