About The Position

The International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) is an independent nonprofit research institute affiliated with the University of California, Berkeley. Our researchers are advancing work in artificial intelligence, data science, networking, and computational science with global impact. We’re looking for a creative, curious, and outgoing student to join our team as a Communications & Marketing Intern. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in social media, digital storytelling, science communication, and community engagement. In this role, you’ll help bring ICSI’s research and community to life across our digital platforms, experiment with new ideas for engagement, and support events that connect researchers across Berkeley and beyond.

  • Excited about science, technology, and research
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Comfort using social media platforms in a professional or academic context
  • A willingness to experiment with new communication tools and formats

  • Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or other graphic design tools
  • WordPress or other website content management systems
  • PowerPoint or Google Slides
  • Social media analytics or digital marketing tools
  • Interest in science communication, journalism, marketing, or digital media

Responsibilities

  • Help grow ICSI’s online presence and share the stories behind our research.
  • Creating engaging social media content (especially for LinkedIn)
  • Designing graphics and visuals using tools like Canva
  • Helping plan and schedule posts and campaigns
  • Monitoring engagement and identifying posts that perform well
  • Brainstorming creative ways to highlight researchers, projects, and milestones
  • Experimenting with new formats such as short videos, research spotlights, and behind-the-scenes content
  • Drafting short research highlights, news updates, and announcements
  • Updating website content using WordPress or similar CMS platforms
  • Assisting with organizing and improving digital content
  • Helping develop visual or multimedia elements to support stories
  • Promoting events through email and social media
  • Supporting event logistics and speaker outreach
  • Creating digital materials such as graphics, slides, or announcements
  • Helping design engagement strategies that connect ICSI researchers, UC Berkeley affiliates, and our broader community
