About The Position

The Communications Intern will support the Honolulu Museum of Art's efforts to enhance and optimize the digital visitor experience. Working closely with the Marketing & Communications team, this position will evaluate how audiences interact with the museum's digital platforms, identify opportunities for improvement, and help develop recommendations that strengthen engagement, accessibility, and conversion. The intern will map the museum's digital visitor journey across the website and related digital touchpoints, analyze user behavior through tools such as Google Analytics, and provide insights that help improve the online experience for prospective visitors, members, donors, and program participants. This role offers hands-on experience in customer experience strategy, digital analytics, user journey mapping, and data-informed decision-making within a nonprofit cultural institution. This is a 9-week position from September 16th to November 13, 2026.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a bachelor's or master's degree program in Marketing, Communications, Business, Customer Experience, User Experience (UX), Digital Media, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics or other website analytics platforms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Interest in customer experience, digital marketing, user experience (UX), or website strategy.
  • Ability to interpret data and identify trends.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace applications.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with team members.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with data analysis, reporting, or dashboard creation.
  • Knowledge of customer experience (CX), user experience (UX), digital marketing, or website optimization principles.
  • Experience creating customer journey maps, process maps, workflows, or user flow diagrams.
  • Coursework or project experience involving research, surveys, or user behavior analysis.
  • Interest in museums, arts and culture, nonprofit organizations, or visitor engagement.
  • Experience with presentation software such as PowerPoint, Canva, or Google Slides.

Responsibilities

  • Map and document the museum's digital visitor journey across the website and related digital touchpoints.
  • Analyze website traffic, user behavior, engagement metrics, and conversion data using Google Analytics and other available tools.
  • Identify opportunities to improve website navigation, content organization, and overall user experience.
  • Research visitor needs, behaviors, and expectations through available data, surveys, and feedback.
  • Benchmark digital experiences and best practices from peer museums and cultural organizations.
  • Develop recommendations to improve audience engagement, website usability, and conversion performance.
  • Prepare reports, summaries, and presentations that communicate findings and recommendations to museum staff.
  • Assist in tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) related to digital engagement and visitor experience.
  • Collaborate with Marketing & Communications staff on digital experience improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas that support audience growth and engagement goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
