About The Position

Project Renewal is a leading non-profit organization with the mission of building supportive communities where people achieve dignity and independence, renewing their lives with health, homes, and jobs. Our comprehensive and integrated 24/7 programs are designed to offer the holistic care our clients need. With a staff of 950+ and an annual budget of $140 million, Project Renewal is one of the larger social service nonprofits in New York City. The role of the Communications Summer Intern is to help us share our story and strengthen our digital presence. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world experience in nonprofit communications while contributing to work that truly matters. Reporting to the Communications Associate, the Communications Intern is responsible for supporting Project Renewal’s development department and its donor communications goals. Projects will range in size, scope, and complexity which will provide experience in the areas of content creation, storytelling and other methods of engaging supporters of Project Renewal.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; very strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, both in the office and virtually
  • All work is to be completed with standard supervision, confidentiality, integrity, and good judgment in accordance with organization standards.

Responsibilities

  • Create and schedule engaging content across our social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other platforms
  • Monitor social media channels and engage with our online community
  • Assist in refreshing and organizing our photo library, ensuring we have compelling, up-to-date visuals that reflect our mission and the people we serve
  • Support website maintenance and updates, including posting news, events, and program information
  • Support the development of marketing materials such as flyers, presentations, and program one-pagers
  • Support internal communications and help document organizational stories and impact
  • Attend and assist with events, capturing content for promotional use
  • Participate in and help document volunteer activities and community events
  • Supporting other Development and communications projects as needed
