About The Position

Atoms is seeking a senior communications leader to oversee the portfolio-wide communications strategy across its Food, Mining, and Transport businesses. This role involves building a cohesive public narrative for a company operating in diverse industries. The Communications Director will set the strategy for media presence across trade, business, and new media, manage a network of specialized agencies and operators, and advise leadership on media sequencing and timing. The ideal candidate will have experience building a communications function from the ground up in a high-growth, regulated environment, reporting directly to leadership, and unifying multifaceted business narratives.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in communications, including direct experience building a comms function from zero at a high-growth company in a regulated or partnership-dependent industry.
  • Track record of reporting directly into leadership as a strategic advisor.
  • Experience across the full spectrum of comms work: product launches, funding announcements, executive comms, crisis response, internal comms.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of boutique agency relationships in parallel, rather than one centralized firm.
  • Judgment to manage several distinct narratives simultaneously without creating a generic voice.
  • Sound instincts for substance-forward, low-combativeness media strategy, understanding the downside of an adversarial press strategy for a partnership- and regulatory-dependent business.
  • Existing relationships in one or more of: restaurant tech, industrial/mining press, robotics and deep tech, or business/finance trade media.
  • Experience building new-media placement strategy for founders or executives.

Responsibilities

  • Own the company-wide moment calendar, sequencing partnership announcements, fundraises, key hires, and first-site or product launches to create a coherent story.
  • Build and manage the vertical media network, recruiting and overseeing boutique agencies and operators embedded in each industry's press ecosystem.
  • Lead new-media strategy, identifying and securing placements on relevant podcasts, shows, and events for each vertical's audience.
  • Set channel and tier strategy, utilizing the newsroom as a system of record, blog/Perspectives for narrative, and company LinkedIn for amplification.
  • Drive customer-forward storytelling, structuring press moments where customers speak directly about their growth.
  • Advise leadership on the timing, framing, and risk of major public moments, considering regulatory and partnership consequences.
  • Own internal communications across four distinct businesses, ensuring employees are informed about major news, partnerships, hires, and launches.
  • Develop a crisis management playbook with response strategies for realistic risk scenarios across each vertical.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance (multiple plans, incl. HSA options).
  • Company-paid life and disability insurance (short- and long-term).
  • Voluntary insurance: accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity.
  • Optional supplemental life insurance for self, spouse, and children.
  • Pet insurance discount.
  • 401(k).
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (Healthcare, Dependent Care, Commuter)
  • Discretionary vacation days
  • 8 paid holidays per year
  • Paid sick time
  • Paid Bereavement leave
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Equity awards
  • Annual performance-based bonus
