About The Position

The role is hybrid, and requires on-site participation for meetings, resident events, and other activities as needed.

Requirements

  • Strong writing and editing ability, shown through coursework, class projects, a student publication, or a writing sample.
  • Familiarity with Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, and with how organizations use them to reach different audiences.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, and comfort learning new design and communications tools.
  • Strong time-management skills, the ability to meet deadlines within a part-time schedule, and ability to incorporate feedback and revise your work as needed.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid NC driver’s license.
  • Drug testing, criminal background check and DMV check required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with basic video or animation tools, such as Canva, Adobe Express, Vyond, Animaker, CapCut, or Adobe Premiere, through coursework, personal projects, or prior work.
  • Experience creating graphics or print materials with tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Previous internship, volunteer, or student organization experience in communications, marketing, or event support.
  • Interest in or exposure to public housing, government, nonprofits, or community-serving organizations.
  • Familiarity with plain-language writing, accessibility practices (such as captioning and alt text), or experience communicating with diverse communities.
  • Bilingual ability (English/Spanish) or other prevalent language spoken by residents in our service area.
  • Basic familiarity with social media or email analytics, such as Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics, or email platform reports.

Responsibilities

  • Write clear, plain-language content for residents, media, government partners, and stakeholders, including resident email newsletters and articles.
  • Develop and maintain a social media content calendar for Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, planning two to four weeks ahead.
  • Script, storyboard, and produce two to three animated explainer videos (one to five minutes each), with captions, text overlays, and voiceover or music as appropriate.
  • Redesign or refresh resident-facing print and digital materials, using the agency's website audit and brand guidelines.
  • Support Resident Services events and outreach campaigns from start to finish, including promotional materials, day-of help, and recap content.
  • Check that all materials meet Fair Housing and accessibility requirements, including equal opportunity language and logo, non-discriminatory imagery, captions, and multi-channel distribution for residents with limited English proficiency, low digital access, or disabilities.
  • Track and report basic performance metrics, such as social media engagement, email open rates, and website traffic, to show what is working.
  • Help the Communications Manager create and roll out Aspire courses in SharePoint, and with related staff outreach.
  • Review the agency's current communications tools and software, and recommend improvements, especially for video creation and editing.
  • Follow the agency's internal review and approval process, getting supervisor sign-off on every deliverable before it is released externally.
  • Work may require planning, production, or project presentation such as an outreach campaign, a new-resident onboarding packet, or a social media strategy, with a companion explainer video.
  • Maintains a deliverables log and portfolio of completed work.
