About The Position

Receive and direct incoming telephone calls and communicate with the general public, staff, physicians, and patients. This role operates under the general direction of the Manager, IT Customer Service.

Requirements

  • Minimum or a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent (i.e. General Education Development (GED) or Academic and Career Entrance (ACE)).
  • Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to type a minimum of 50 w.p.m.
  • Demonstrated excellent data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated computer skills with intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and applicable patient information systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and communicate with patients, families, and healthcare workers.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Demonstrated compliance with HSN’s privacy policy.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
  • Successful Criminal Record Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Demonstrated professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
  • Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record.
  • Ability to meet the physical and sensory demands of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Answer, screen and direct incoming telephone calls to appropriate areas.
  • Direct incoming patients and visitors and notify departments of arrival as required.
  • Answer inquiries and provide information to patients and visitors as required.
  • Page physicians, staff and volunteers as required.
  • Monitor maintenance and security issues and follow up as required.
  • Monitor department alarms and two-way radios and act as central hub for emergency codes.
  • Receive and direct incoming deliveries and prepare forms for outgoing deliveries.
  • Retrieve mail, sort, and forward to appropriate departments.
  • Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
  • Contribute to learner development by providing academic support, mentorship, preceptorship and supervision as required.
  • Participate in hospital training as required.
  • Assist with improvement initiatives as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.
