About The Position

The Communications Analyst provides strategic communications, content development, outreach coordination, and stakeholder engagement support for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Technology Commercialization in its administration of the SBIR/STTR programs. This position enhances program visibility, strengthens applicant and awardee communications, and ensures clear, timely, and accurate dissemination of program information. The analyst works closely with program managers, national laboratories, small businesses, and DOE leadership to support messaging, outreach campaigns, digital content, and communication tools that promote the SBIR/STTR mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, public policy, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in communications, public affairs, content development, stakeholder outreach, or program support.
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills with experience producing high quality materials for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate technical or programmatic information into clear, accessible content.
  • Experience managing communication workflows, content calendars, email campaigns, or outreach activities.
  • Familiarity with federal program operations, science/technology communication, or R&D program environments.
  • Proficiency with communication platforms, content management systems, design tools, or analytics dashboards.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to meet federal suitability requirements if needed.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting SBIR/STTR programs, DOE communications, or science agency outreach efforts.
  • Knowledge of technology commercialization, innovation ecosystems, or small business entrepreneurship.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, edit, and maintain communication materials including newsletters, program updates, fact sheets, web content, presentations, and outreach collateral.
  • Support the planning and execution of SBIR/STTR communication strategies, outreach campaigns, and stakeholder engagement efforts.
  • Coordinate and prepare content for webinars, workshops, applicant assistance activities, and public facing events.
  • Manage communication calendars, message distribution, email campaigns, and stakeholder contact lists
  • Assist with developing and maintaining SBIR/STTR website content, FAQs, program summaries, and public resources.
  • Create communication assets such as graphics, visualizations, infographics, and slide decks to support outreach activities.
  • Support the development of reports, briefing materials, success stories, and impact summaries for leadership and external audiences.
  • Monitor inquiries through shared inboxes, ensuring timely responses and consistent messaging to applicants and stakeholders.
  • Collect and organize metrics related to outreach effectiveness, stakeholder engagement, website performance, and communication activities.
  • Coordinate with DOE offices, national laboratories, and small businesses to gather program information, success stories, and updates for dissemination.
  • Ensure all communication materials align with DOE brand guidelines, messaging priorities, and federal communication standards.
  • Contribute to process improvements that enhance communication efficiency, clarity, and accessibility for program participants.
