About The Position

The Communication Strategist III/Industrial Designer supports NASA and reports to the Program Manager. This position is 100% on-site. We are looking for a skilled, creative, organized industrial designer, outreach coordinator, and project manager to lead our outreach and engagement events team at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. The successful candidate will join us in Houston to ideate, visualize and model events, outreach opportunities and physical exhibits with accuracy, keeping the NASA mission and client requirements in mind. We are looking for someone with a methodical eye for detail who will lead our team, visualize and pitch, manage projects and exhibit assets, conduct design reviews, analyze job environments, and provide superior client relations. This role also requires the mechanical know-how to provide guidance on building methods and materials, track and organize efficient projects, and provide new concept design. This position will also require the added excitement of setting up outreach events to educate, inform and excite the Artemis generation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial design or a related field is preferred from an accredited college or university
  • Five (5) years of professional experience in industrial design, project management, or a related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Solidworks, Keyshot Pro, and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Strong team orientation, collaborative spirit, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead teams, prioritize competing deadlines, and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Willingness to engage in hands-on tasks, including heavy lifting and operating heavy machinery.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. or less.
  • Flexibility to travel and work nights, holidays and weekends
  • Will be required to set up and tear down events, drive a box truck and operate a fork truck.
  • Employees must possess the ability to work in an office environment.
  • If required, employees must be able to operate a motor vehicle which may require sitting for prolonged periods of time to visit other company sites.
  • Must have hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone.
  • Standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required.
  • This position may require an employee to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb or balance, reach, push, and pull.
  • The employee may also be required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with NASA or in a government agency environment.
  • Experience with Agile project management is desirable.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP®) or equivalent certification is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and oversee complex fabrication activities and installations.
  • Collaborate with the NASA Office of Communications to ensure seamless execution of projects, including event setups, property asset management, and materials tracking.
  • Engage directly with clients, managers, and team leads to manage expectations, ensure satisfaction, and maintain quality and safety standards.
  • Facilitate regular communication to keep all stakeholders informed and aligned.
  • Lead the Glenn Research Exhibits team and external vendors in scheduling and executing exhibit fabrication and event coordination.
  • Understand and manage the order of operations to ensure efficient and timely project completion.
  • Assist with artifact management and ensure strict adherence to property procedures.
  • Oversee safety and quality standards during installations, ensuring compliance with NASA guidelines and best practices.
  • Create, manage, and maintain an integrated master schedule.
  • Conduct weekly progress meetings to keep the team informed and projects on track.
  • Participate in the physical setup of events and installations, including hauling heavy objects and operating machinery such as forklifts and box trucks.
  • Execute various administrative tasks including writing formal Request for Proposal documents, work-in-progress reporting, and property management.
