About The Position

PCI-P is seeking a talented, reliable, deadline-driven Communication Strategist to join our team supporting the Exploration EVA Systems office at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. The successful candidate will work with the team responsible for NASA’s space suits program to fulfill their communication objectives. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a strong history of professional feature writing, planning and executing communications campaigns, navigating a matrixed organization with multiple stakeholders and approval processes, designing and managing public affairs efforts, and collaborating with diverse groups. Experience working with the media and preparing subject matter experts for interviews and public appearances is also desirable.

Requirements

  • BA/BS Journalism, Multimedia, Communications, or related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in strategic communications
  • Must provide consultation and feedback to executive-level leadership team
  • Must be able to write to a range of audiences and creatively explain complex technical ideas in an approachable, compelling way.
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work in a dynamic environment.
  • Flexibility to travel depending on mission and client requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with editing and familiarity with AP style are a plus.
  • NASA experience is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Research, write, edit, and distribute news releases, media advisories, feature articles, web updates, blog posts, talking points, and other communications materials supporting NASA’s efforts to inform the media and public about the suits program’s activities and events.
  • Track the impact of these materials and present results and strategies to the program.
  • Ensuring accurate messaging aligned with Agency priorities is required.
  • Identify and develop strategies, tactics, products, and messaging for the suits program, plan and conduct events, and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Provide expertise and project management, ensuring ongoing communication with relevant Agency stakeholders and external partners.
  • Will work as part of a small team, contributing individually and supporting team strategy, planning, and presentations.
  • Create and oversee the development of communications products and efforts
  • Handle multiple and complex projects simultaneously under stringent timelines and changing priorities/conditions.
  • Identify and develop strategies, tactics, products, and messaging for small and large activities.
  • Work collaboratively across the entire organization, other federal agencies, international partners, and private sector organizations to support NASA public affairs initiatives.
  • Write and develop feature articles, news releases, talking points, key messages, responses to questions, and communications plans.
  • Review and edit all materials related to HSMD portfolio for quality control and message alignment/accuracy before public distribution.
  • Act as liaison between programs, centers, and NASA directorates and the Office of Communications.
  • Plan and conduct media and public events.
  • Monitor news and public events to provide recommended courses of action on messaging and public affairs efforts.
  • Advise various management officials on possible public/media reactions involving proposed policy statements and agency actions.
  • Prepare NASA speakers for interviews, public appearances and events.
  • Travel to provide on-site communications support for activities.
