About The Position

UTHealth Houston's Children's Learning Institute is hiring a Communication Specialist! The Communication Specialist develops and delivers strategic communications, supporting initiatives such as Texas School Ready (TSR), TECPDS, and other programs. This role creates clear, engaging content that promotes early childhood resources, professional development opportunities, and stakeholder engagement across digital, print, and event channels. The Communication Specialist also provides communications support for departmental programs through content development, writing and editing, website and newsletter management, project coordination, graphic design, and promotional materials for education and outreach initiatives, by working closely with program managers and stakeholders, the specialist ensures consistent branding and effective communication through newsletters, email campaigns, websites, webinars, social media, and other digital/print assets. Occasional travel is required to support events and conferences across Texas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field required
  • 3 years of experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field required
  • Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers information, generates ideas, and develops and influences the development of high quality, creative materials and programs.
  • Gathers information through research and interviews with faculty, staff and other appropriate sources, such as donors and patients.
  • Generates ideas for communication strategies and develops related promotional plans, tactics and materials.
  • Writes news/feature articles for publication.
  • Collaborates with team members and/or other faculty/staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
