About The Position

The Communications Center Operator operates the Lincoln Airport Authority communication and security systems and monitors electronic equipment alarms. This is a part-time, on-call position with no fixed schedule, requiring the operator to fill shifts as needed, which are usually known in advance, but may sometimes involve last-minute coverage for unexpected absences. The starting rate of pay is $25.81 per hour, with an additional $1.25 per hour shift differential for hours worked between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM.

Requirements

  • Related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Exhibit a friendly, knowledgeable, and professional demeanor.
  • Maintain familiarity with aviation and airline industry terms.
  • Speak with clarity, and read and write English fluently.
  • Perform satisfactorily under pressure to meet set schedules and budgetary guidelines.
  • Possess excellent computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail, be organized, accurate, and reliable.
  • Recognize and maintain the confidentiality and sensitivity of certain documents and information.
  • Demonstrate the ability to quickly learn and use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.
  • Be flexible, have excellent interpersonal skills, and have the ability to work well with all levels of management and staff as well as outside clients and vendors.
  • Be part of a team to accomplish the necessary work.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment reference check, drug screening, criminal history check (required by the Transportation Security Administration), and other requirements as per Lincoln Airport Authority policy.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the security system and initiate an appropriate response.
  • Operate the public address system.
  • Answer multi-line phone system, including accurately interpreting customer needs, providing information, or directing callers to appropriate parties.
  • Ensures important calls, messages, and faxed information are transferred in a timely manner to appropriate personnel.
  • Operate the radio system to communicate with departments.
  • Monitor systems to detect serious malfunction of elevators, escalators, fire alarms, emergency doors, heating, air-conditioning, or HVAC systems.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Act as backup to the badging office.
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position.
  • Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with Lincoln Airport Authority policies, procedures, and safety practices.
  • Other duties, tasks, and responsibilities may be assigned at any time.
