About The Position

Boise Cascade has an exciting opening for a Commodity Product Manager! The Commodity Product Manager sets product lines, selects vendors, monitors performance, and assists in purchasing lumber product lines in support of the location sales goals. This role involves screening appropriate product lines, negotiating with vendors, and potentially soliciting direct and warehouse sales of all commodity products to customers. The Commodity Product Manager will manage product lines to obtain the most favorable terms, prices, service, and promotional support. They will work closely with sales, marketing, and vendors to develop custom programs, block and special buys, promotions, and product support. A key aspect of this role is to develop, maintain, and gain relevant knowledge of products, production processes, industry trends, market dynamics, and competitor analysis. The position may involve facilitating direct buys and deliveries between customers and suppliers, quoting prices, taking orders, negotiating transportation rates and modes, and providing delivery dates. The Commodity Product Manager will evaluate monthly reports to optimize product line performance and contribution, maintain the division SKU master for assigned product lines, and monitor the receipt of rebates and special discounts to ensure vendor compliance. A strong commitment to safety, quality, environmental awareness, and continuous process improvement is expected. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

Requirements

  • College Degree or equivalent work experience in related job function
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work independently or with teams/groups

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in related job function
  • Lumber trader and panel experience preferred
  • Previous experience in a lumber-related purchasing and/or sales or general line product management in the building materials industry
