About The Position

Colorado State University's Facilities Management department is seeking a Commodity Buyer to manage assigned commodities and services, assist customers with inventory and service requests, and contribute to the development, care, maintenance, and operation of CSU's physical properties. The role involves purchasing supplies, managing inventory, selecting and managing suppliers, and promoting environmental stewardship through sustainable purchasing practices. The Commodity Buyer will analyze assigned commodities to identify cost-saving and streamlining opportunities.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of experience working within supply chain management services or logistics, which may include purchasing services, inventory management, and vendor relations.
  • OR A combination of related education and/or experience working within supply chain management services or logistics, including purchasing services, inventory management, and vendor relations, equal to three (3) years.
  • Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for new hires)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience processing purchase orders and managing a credit card (Pcard).
  • Working knowledge of automated inventory management.
  • Excellent customer-service and interpersonal communication skills in a highly fluid environment (high flexibility).
  • Experience with ERP or Inventory management.
  • Directly related state service experience.

Responsibilities

  • Purchasing supplies and managing assigned commodities and services.
  • Assisting customers with inventory and service requests in Aim.
  • Order placement.
  • Inventory management, including utilizing ABC analysis to determine stocking levels.
  • Supplier Selection and Management.
  • Environmental Stewardship (Sustainability) by identifying opportunities to support CSU sustainability initiatives through purchasing green or energy-efficient products and services.
  • Analyzing assigned commodities to identify opportunities to streamline and reduce cost.
  • Reviewing backorders daily and following up on late orders.
  • Utilizing knowledge of vendors and their offerings to make vendor recommendations.
  • Ensuring that State or CSU awarded sources are used and that there are secondary sources for critical commodities.
