Commissioning Technician

Cushing TerrellBoise, ID
$62,000 - $75,000Onsite

About The Position

We're hiring a Commissioning Technician to join our team in Boise, Idaho. It's full-time and on-site, and you'll be out at project sites across healthcare, commercial, retail, and education work, not stuck doing one type of building over and over. Travel runs around 50% of the time, but it's built to work with your life, not against it, and your supervisor will help you plan around it. A year in, you should be running your own projects with minimal oversight. If you're already working as a field technician, HVAC technician, or commissioning technician and you're ready to stop installing and start verifying how systems actually perform, this is a solid next move.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience commissioning commercial HVAC systems, or 8+ years of commercial HVAC or refrigeration field or start-up experience (installation, troubleshooting, or performance testing).
  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering may substitute for up to 2 years of experience.
  • Basic understanding of HVAC and refrigeration system components, including RTUs, chillers, boilers, VAV systems, and controls
  • Comfortable working onsite, with overnight travel up to 50% of the time (multi-day site work is common)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents and specifications
  • Strong technical writing and client communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; experience with Bluebeam or similar PDF markup tools

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience commissioning commercial HVAC or refrigeration systems, including functional performance testing, start-up, or controls verification
  • Experience with building automation controls and sequences (BACnet, Modbus), including point-to-point verification and trend log analysis

Responsibilities

  • Review contract documents and approved submittals to build commissioning plans, system checkout forms, and functional test forms for each project
  • Conduct site visits to assess installation progress, verify equipment against design intent, and record issues in the Issues Log
  • Execute functional performance testing on HVAC, refrigeration, and related mechanical systems, using measurement tools and data loggers to verify airflow, temperature, pressure, and control sequences
  • Document test results and field observations in clear reports for the commissioning team and building owner
  • Perform test and balance back checks through additional site visits and confirm resolution before final sign-off
  • Compile final commissioning reports summarizing testing outcomes and any outstanding items for the owner
  • Support owner training sessions with technical insight into system operation and commissioning findings
  • Interpret construction documents, equipment specs, and process drawings to confirm equipment meets applicable codes

Benefits

  • competitive benefits package
  • annual performance bonus
