About The Position

The HIDI Group is seeking a Commissioning Specialist to join their multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm. This role involves ensuring building systems perform as intended from design through occupancy, acting as a trusted advisor to clients, and collaborating with project teams. The ideal candidate enjoys solving technical challenges and working directly in the field.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of commissioning experience within the building consulting or engineering industry.
  • College diploma or university degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Building Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC, mechanical, and building systems.
  • Working knowledge of applicable building codes, ASHRAE guidelines, and LEED commissioning requirements.
  • Excellent technical writing, reporting, and communication skills.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and time management abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience managing technical documentation.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Comfortable working on active construction sites and in mechanical spaces.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the GTA, Ontario, and occasionally out of province as project needs require.
  • Ability to obtain Government of Canada security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage commissioning projects from planning through project closeout.
  • Coordinate and execute commissioning activities for new and existing buildings.
  • Conduct site inspections, functional performance testing, and system verification.
  • Troubleshoot building systems and provide practical recommendations to optimize performance.
  • Prepare commissioning plans, reports, deficiency logs, and project documentation.
  • Work closely with owners, contractors, architects, engineers, and building operators throughout all project phases.
  • Perform building condition assessments and infrastructure reviews as required.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables to ensure successful project execution.
  • Support proposal preparation and contribute to developing long-term client relationships.
  • Assist in developing and improving commissioning procedures, templates, and reporting tools.
