About The Position

Reporting to the Vice-President, Engineering and Construction, Commissioning Manager / IST Lead will play a key role in bridging the gap between build and operations, lead the validation of complex MEP environments, and ensure total system resilience — from individual component verification through to complex failure-scenario simulations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in full-cycle project engineering, from initial component design and technical troubleshooting to the industrial implementation of advanced technological solutions.
  • Extensive experience in data centers
  • Bachelor’s in mechanical or electrical engineering or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of pertinent experience.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and process-driven.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate cross-functional teams.
  • Independent, proactive, and comfortable leading local initiatives.
  • Strategic thinker with practical execution skills.
  • Expertise in identifying single points of failure and predicting cascading impacts across interdependent power, cooling, and control systems.
  • Proven ability to lead the transition from construction to operations, ensuring a seamless, defect-free handover and a fully trained team.
  • Familiarity with data center construction and infrastructure projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of building systems and industry standards.
  • Expert knowledge of MV/LV switchgear, UPS systems, generator synchronization, and relay coordination/breaker settings.
  • Deep understanding of chilled water plants, DX/CRAH units, and the psychrometrics of data center cooling.
  • Proficiency in auditing BMS/EPMS and verifying that complex Sequences of Operations (SOO) translate accurately into PLC logic.
  • Expertise in staging resistive/reactive load banks and using infrared thermography/data trending to find latent system defects.
  • Skilled in auditing MEP designs for practical testing requirements and drafting/approving complex IST failure scripts.
  • Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to critical incidents.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Project Management preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the commissioning master plan, covering Level 1 (Factory Witness Testing) through Level 4 (Functional Performance Testing).
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, and MEP designs to ensure "testability" and alignment with operational standards.
  • Lead third-party commissioning agents (CxA) and equipment vendors to ensure all pre-functional checklists and startup reports are completed accurately.
  • Plan and lead the Level 5 Integrated Systems Test. This involves simulating various failure scenarios (e.g., utility power loss, generator failure, chiller plant failure) to validate system redundancy and autonomous response.
  • Review and approve the detailed scripts used during IST to ensure they reflect real-world failure modes and safety protocols.
  • Identify potential "points of failure" during testing and coordinate with the Design Engineers to implement immediate fixes.
  • Act as the primary bridge between the Construction team and the Operations team, ensuring a seamless transition of the facility.
  • Oversee the technical training of the Operations staff on new equipment and emergency procedures as part of the closeout process.
  • Facilitate post-commissioning reviews to capture "lessons learned" and update the Basis of Design (BOD) for future builds.
