About The Position

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Commissioning Manager to join our team. This position is based at our Project Office in the west end of Toronto, Ontario requiring the candidate to be in office Monday to Friday weekly. Your role Works with the contractor(s) to define the commissioning strategy and plan, and for successfully commissioning the assets delivered through the LIFT Program. Responsibilities include supporting the design process including attendance at key design reviews, reviewing, and assuring the contractor’s testing and commissioning plan, overseeing the testing and commissioning phase of the program(s), providing technical guidance and subject matter expertise to team as needed. Collaborates with various internal and external program stakeholders to successfully coordinate commissioning activities. Conducts site observation surveys and prepares field reports on the status of projects and completion of projects with respect to compliance to the plans and specifications. Reviews, documents, and improves processes and workflows to eliminate inefficiencies and maximize team performance. Provides management and executive level performance reporting with respect to commissioning activities including highlighting key risks and mitigation plans. Coaching, mentoring, and supporting the career development of GTAA staff.

Requirements

  • Typically, a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in large infrastructure programs in a commissioning role including 5 years in a management / leadership position.
  • Demonstrable experience of commissioning of major capital assets in a live operational and highly regulated environment, aviation preferred.
  • Project management experience including a sound understanding of planning, scheduling, cost, and risk management.
  • Thorough working knowledge and experience of testing and commissioning airport infrastructure and facilities mechanical, MV/LV electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls systems.
  • Specific working knowledge of the design, construction, project management and maintenance of building, mechanical, industrial, and utility systems.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements, including TP312, ICAO, FAA, CSA/OESC, and applicable airport authority standards.
  • Strong understanding of relevant mechanical, electrical, fire codes, standards, and regulations, including the CSA, CEC, NFPA, ASHRAE and other applicable local and international standards.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills including the ability to facilitate meeting / workshops with large groups of stakeholders.
  • Strong technical capability in all project phases and ability to solve complex problems including by using data analytics to support solution identification.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing senior stakeholder relationships and providing strategic level reporting to enable effective decision making.
  • Recognized degree in civil, mechanical, electrical, industrial, or related engineering field.

Nice To Haves

  • Aviation experience preferred.
  • In‑depth technical knowledge of aviation specialty engineering systems—such as ALCMS, AGL, CCR, PBB, PMD, BHS, and related systems—is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of sustainability initiatives and energy‑efficient design principles is considered an asset.
