About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring the cloud runs smoothly. This involves supporting all AWS data centers and the associated servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment. The team comprises diverse professionals including software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers. They collaborate across AWS to maintain high standards of safety and security while delivering scalable capacity at the lowest cost. The role is within a fast-paced environment focused on building and supporting Amazon-owned data centers. The Amazon Commissioning team (ACx) evaluates and manages construction quality according to engineering designs to meet customer requirements. The Commissioning Engineer (CxE) supports vendors, contractors, and other teams involved in the construction and commissioning of various critical systems.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems experience.
  • High technical competency in either mechanical or electrical or control systems utilized in critical infrastructures, with the capability to learn and be trained in the others.
  • Understand the design concept and intent by reviewing mechanical or electrical design documentation, including drawings, specifications, vendor submittments and sequences of operations and provide feedback on the same in accordance with Amazon standards for basis of design.
  • Develop but majorly review commissioning documentation such as test plans, scripts and reports developed by vendors to ensure accuracy in accordance with the design requirements.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestic and internationally for up to 80% of the year.
  • Required to provide personal transportation for meetings and job visits away from the office; reimbursed.

  • Advanced knowledge Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook required; advanced knowledge of SharePoint (or similar) preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, detail oriented, highly organized, and able to work in high stress environments to maintain calm and respectful interaction with multiple teams.
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems for critical infrastructures.
  • Ability to read and edit construction documents (design drawings, control diagrams, specifications, etc.).
  • Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems/components based on design intent and approved equipment submittals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide testing and validation oversight of AWS data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
  • Review design documents.
  • Lead Factory Witness Testing (FWT).
  • Manage third-party commissioning vendors in the performance of onsite pre-functional, functional, and integrated systems testing.
  • Take ownership of projects by resolving technical issues and addressing schedule and coordination demands.
  • Communicate lessons learned and collaborate on program improvements.
  • Provide multi-discipline input into the scheduling, test script development, designing, and planning of projects.
  • Review component submittal packages.
  • Perform system level and integrated system testing.
  • Audit commissioning activities to ensure compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements.
  • Provide comprehensive weekly reporting of status for ongoing projects and lessons learned.
  • Coordinate site activities, prioritize tasks, and ensure issues have a clear path to resolution.
  • Manage the project commissioning vendor to identify issues, determine criticality, propose solutions, and document findings.
  • Escalate project turnover risks to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Communicate lessons learned to peers and participate in initiatives to improve the commissioning program.
