Commissioning Engineer - Mission Critical - Dallas, TX
About The Position
The Commissioning Engineer supports commissioning on mission-critical projects, helping ensure HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and control systems are installed, tested, and operating in accordance with design intent, project specifications, and client requirements. The role offers hands-on experience with complex building systems in a fast-paced construction environment. The engineer assists with commissioning plans, schedules, procedures, meetings, document reviews, and coordination with subcontractors, vendors, and third-party commissioning authorities. The role also supports equipment inspections, pre-functional testing, system readiness, installation verification, energization and startup, and compliance with safety protocols, owner requirements, industry standards, and applicable codes. The engineer tracks commissioning issues and corrective actions, maintains project documentation, and supports milestones through substantial completion and final system acceptance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or relevant experience.
- At least one year of experience in commissioning mission-critical facilities, MEP systems, or a related industry.
- Basic understanding of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation systems.

Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and executing commissioning plans, schedules, and procedures.
- Participate in commissioning-related meetings and prepare and distribute meeting minutes to the project team.
- Review submittals, shop drawings, and equipment documentation for compliance with project and commissioning requirements.
- Coordinate commissioning activities with subcontractors, vendors, and third-party commissioning authorities.
- Support scheduling and execution of equipment inspections, pre-functional testing, and system readiness activities.
- Review and verify installation checklists for HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and control systems.
- Support energization and startup activities while adhering to NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and site safety protocols.
- Ensure compliance with owner requirements, NEC, ASHRAE standards, and applicable local codes and regulations.
- Assist in coordinating vendor pre-startup and startup activities with the Commissioning Manager (CxM).
- Track, document, and manage commissioning issues, deficiencies, and corrective actions through resolution.
- Maintain accurate commissioning logs, reports, and documentation.
- Support project teams in achieving milestones, including substantial completion and final system acceptance.
