The Commissioning Engineer is responsible for but not limited to Level 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 commissioning of base building systems, security systems, life safety systems, Electrical, Mechanical, and EPMS/BMS systems of a Data Center environment. Our commissioning experts evaluate, define, and manage construction quality expectations according to engineering designs, ensuring customer requirements are met every step of the way. Activities will include but are not limited to testing and/or validation of connectivity, network infrastructure, security, life safety, other building subsystems and finishes, transformers, electrical switchgear, UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply), ATS (Automatic Trans Switches), PDU (Power Distribution Units), Chillers, water loops/components, Cooling distribution equipment, Electrical Power Monitoring Systems, and Building Management and automation systems. This role will also serve as a project manager and liaison to a third-party commissioning agent.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems;
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/electrical engineering, Construction Management, or a related field or equivalent professional experience;
  • Ability to understand design concepts and intent by reviewing documentation (drawings, specifications, vendor submittals, sequences of operations) and provide constructive feedback;
  • Experience developing or reviewing commissioning documentation, including test plans, scripts, and reports to ensure design requirements are met.
  • Ability to analyze operations of various systems, determine the cause of problems and malfunctions and take corrective action as required;
  • The ability to acquire and apply job-related knowledge within set guidelines and expectations;
  • Ability to develop solutions and create technical plans on projects;
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to function in a team environment;
  • Computer skills and familiarity with MS Office, Outlook, and web-based computer applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Firm understanding of both mechanical and electrical equipment, systems and design related to data centers;
  • Knowledge of electricity and medium to low voltage electrical distribution systems;
  • Experience with emergency backup systems (generators, UPS, battery backup);
  • Experience with various mechanical cooling solutions (Chillers, CRAH, CRAC, Pumps, Heat Exchangers, etc.);
  • Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance, single line drawings, critical scripted work, and sequence of operations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee testing and validation of electrical and mechanical infrastructure, including medium and low voltage power systems, generators, UPS, HVAC (air handlers, exhaust fans, VFDs), chilled water systems, building management systems (BMS), electrical power monitoring systems (EPMS), testing and balancing, pumps, and hydronic systems;
  • Develop comprehensive commissioning plans for Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, and Level 5 systems, including connectivity, network infrastructure, security, life safety, other building subsystems and finishes, Electrical, Mechanical, and Building Automation components;
  • Provide input into project scheduling, test script development, design, and planning across multiple disciplines;
  • Conduct thorough commissioning activities, ensuring that all systems are installed, tested, and validated according to industry standards and client specifications;
  • Identify, track, and resolve any issues during the commissioning process, working closely with the project team to resolve technical challenges. Utilize findings and provide feedback to program management team to drive continuous improvement;
  • Create and/or review detailed commissioning documentation, including test procedures, reports, and as-built documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness;
  • Witness testing of all equipment during commissioning and validate sequence of operations and receipt of all operational documentation;
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design engineers, project managers, contractors, commissioning agents, and facilities operations to ensure seamless integration of systems during the commissioning phase without impact to operational portions of the campus or building;
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure the highest standards are met during the build and commissioning process, adhering to regulatory requirements and industry best practices;
