About The Position

Merrick is seeking a Commissioning Engineer II to become part of our growing Life Sciences Commissioning team. This role involves coordinating, performing, and overseeing detailed field commissioning services, assessments, and studies for various facilities and systems including laboratories, nuclear spaces, hospitals, and clean rooms. The position requires generating commissioning plans, writing specifications, developing installation checklists and functional test procedures, verifying and validating commissioned systems controls and equipment, documenting the commissioning process, developing final commissioning reports, and creating systems manuals. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and planning skills, the ability to lead a team through the commissioning process, and the capability to generate accurate, detailed reports. A key aspect of the role is the ability to read and understand building drawings, specifications, and submittals, along with knowledge of controls systems and control sequences.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering OR a (2) Year Technical Associates Degree from an accredited institution with practical commissioning, controls, or testing experience.
  • Five (5) years or more experience in the commissioning of HVAC (air and hydronic), controls, plumbing, laboratory equipment, fire protection, security, and/or electrical systems.
  • Demonstrated Project Management experience.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and be insurable under Merrick’s insurance carrier.
  • U.S. Citizenship required for client projects.
  • Possess, or be able to obtain, a US security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the commissioning of bio-containment laboratory facilities (BSL3, BSL3Ag, BSL4)
  • Experience in commissioning of other types of high-tech, mission-critical facilities
  • Experience with HVAC controls systems and protocols (e.g. JCI, Siemens, ALC, BACnet, Modbus, etc)
  • Experience with construction administration
  • LEED/Green Globes/Guiding Principles Compliance
  • PE, BCxP, CxA, LEED AP
  • Familiarity with AutoCad and/or Revit
  • Obtain commissioning certification under ASHRAE, ACG and/or BCA within the first three years of engagement.

Responsibilities
