About The Position

The Commissioning Authority (CxA) will serve as a valuable member of the Integra Testing team, leading commissioning services for new construction and existing facilities across commercial, healthcare, institutional, and government projects. This full-time role is ideal for a motivated, client-focused professional who can independently manage projects, build strong relationships with building owners and project stakeholders, and help grow Integra Testing’s commissioning presence in Virginia. The Commissioning Authority will work closely with internal team members, contractors, vendors, facilities managers, and owners while maintaining responsibility for project execution, documentation, and client communication. We are seeking experienced Commissioning Agents. Compensation may increase beyond the listed range for candidates with advanced commissioning certifications, Professional Engineer licensure, and/or extensive commissioning experience.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of commissioning experience; relevant experience in Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB), electrical systems, building controls, or related MEP fields will be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of building commissioning processes, building codes, industry standards, and best practices, including LEED, ASHRAE, ACG, and NEBB commissioning requirements.
  • Proficiency with Building Management Systems (BMS) and Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB) principles and practices.
  • Strong working knowledge of MEP systems and design, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, controls, and related building systems.
  • Experience reviewing design drawings, specifications, equipment submittals, and sequence-of-operation documents.
  • Experience developing commissioning plans, pre-functional checklists, functional test procedures, issue logs, and commissioning reports.
  • Ability to lead commissioning site activities, coordinate with multiple project stakeholders, and manage project schedules and deliverables.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project-management software for documentation, communication, and project tracking.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for project meetings, site visits, equipment start-up witnessing, and functional testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Commissioning or commissioning-adjacent certifications, such as NEBB, AGC, BCxA, or similar credentials, are preferred.
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred but not required. A willingness to obtain PE licensure in North Carolina is encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Lead commissioning activities for new building systems, helping ensure systems are installed, started, tested, and operating in accordance with design documents and project requirements.
  • Perform retro-commissioning services for existing commercial, healthcare, and government facilities to help identify opportunities to improve system performance and operation.
  • Independently review contract documents, including drawings, specifications, and equipment submittals, to identify and help resolve MEP design, installation, and operational issues.
  • Develop and manage commissioning plans, pre-functional checklists, functional performance tests, and final commissioning reports.
  • Document design, construction, installation, controls, and sequence-of-operation deficiencies and coordinate with project stakeholders to support resolution.
  • Oversee and manage commissioning-related site activities, including installation verification, equipment start-up observation, functional testing, and coordination with project teams.
  • Work directly with building owners, facilities managers, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders to build productive, long-term client relationships.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to develop new client relationships, generate new business, and expand Integra Testing’s commissioning services.
  • Independently secure and manage projects while maintaining project schedules, client expectations, and quality standards.
  • Lead client meetings and clearly communicate technical findings, recommendations, project status, and next steps.
