About The Position

Join Principal’s Commercial Real Estate Finance Consulting team to analyze and complete commercial real estate financing transactions in support of clients’ investment strategies. The role involves assessing transaction due-diligence risks, working on legal documentation, coordinating transaction information among internal and external parties, and supporting business relationships and research related to commercial real estate financing. The posting also considers candidates for the next level, Sr Commercial Real Estate Finance Analyst, which requires 7+ years of experience.

The role is offered in-office or hybrid from Des Moines, Iowa; the hybrid arrangement includes at least three office days in a typical work week. Principal Asset Management is the investment solutions business of Principal Financial Group, managing about $740 billion in assets and drawing on more than 60 years of experience. The position is subject to an Investment Code of Ethics covering personal and business conduct and personal trading activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business, law, economics, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of commercial real estate experience.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong verbal, written, listening, and negotiating communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, be results-oriented, and demonstrate excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to interpret and analyze legal documentation and complex legal structures and issues, assess risk, and make decisions based on independent analysis.
• Strong organizational, project management, and planning skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple competing priorities.
• Ability to demonstrate skills in marketing and customer relations.

Nice To Haves

• At least 1 year of experience focused on financing issues and structures.
• For consideration at the Sr Commercial Real Estate Finance Analyst level: at least 7 years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and assess risks of transaction due diligence.
• Draft, negotiate, and make decisions regarding terms and conditions of legal documentation.
• Manage the transaction process by coordinating information delivery between internal and external parties.
• Assist in developing and maintaining business relationships with real estate owners, developers, and investment brokers.
• Assist in researching developments in commercial real estate financing and formulating appropriate procedures.
• Perform other job-related duties or special projects as required.
