About The Position

A Commercial RE Portfolio Specialist provides credit administration and underwriting support while serving as the secondary contact on all managed relationships. The Portfolio Specialist is responsible for a wide range of duties including, but not limited to, managing all aspects of the loan portfolio, participating in the loan process, serving as a secondary contact on client relationships, reviewing loan documents, analyzing financial statements, identifying and mitigating risks, preparing credit analysis packages, and researching companies and industries.

Requirements

  • Proficient knowledge of credit policy and loan documentation issues
  • Knowledge of various loan structures and ability to apply this knowledge in the formulation of sound credit recommendations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to write clearly, concisely and efficiently
  • Understand and work effectively within the credit culture of the company
  • Ability to allocate time effectively and prioritize work to meet timelines
  • Experience spreading financial statements utilizing Moody’s or Baker Hill
  • Participate in all required compliance training, including Bank Secrecy Act/anti-money laundering training, as well as internal and external training programs, online training, meetings, and seminars/conferences, etc.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background & credit check.

Nice To Haves

  • 4-year business degree with concentration in finance and/or accounting preferred
  • 5-7 years of work experience in credit analysis and underwriting preferred
  • Experience as a lender/relationship manager preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work with corporate banking RMs to manage all aspects of the loan portfolio including annual reviews, past dues, borrowing base monitoring, covenant compliance, CARs, collateral exceptions, and other portfolio management activities
  • Actively participate and assist in all aspects of the loan process including joint calling, underwriting and preparation of credit approval packages
  • Serve as secondary contact on client relationships
  • Review loan documents
  • Spread, analyze, and interpret businesses and financial statements
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses of individual requests and make recommendations to address and mitigate perceived risks
  • Prepare and present credit analysis packages through the credit approval chain with limited supervision
  • Make calls on companies, sponsors and investment bankers with senior bankers
  • Serve as the initial deal screen to determine loan viability
  • Research company and industry
  • Prepare credit analysis packages
  • Make preliminary recommendations
  • Interact with senior executives in senior credit committee
  • Communicate with corporate borrowers to obtain pertinent information for rendering recommendations
  • Address compliance issues with management and customers; evaluate and recommend changes to covenants, pricing, credit agreement terms, etc.
