About The Position

Marion County is hiring a Commercial Property Appraiser at the Property Appraiser 2 level, with the possibility of underfilling the position as a Property Appraiser 1 trainee. The role appraises real and personal property for tax assessment purposes. Property Appraiser 2 employees work under the supervision of an Appraisal Supervisor, Senior Appraiser, or County Assessor. Property Appraiser 1 employees work under close supervision. Positions in this class do not normally supervise others, though they may be assigned to train individuals in a lower classification within the same series. The work includes locating and inspecting properties, collecting and analyzing property and market data, preparing appraisals using applicable valuation approaches, maintaining assessment records, and communicating with property owners and other parties. The role also supports valuation-model development, appeals, and other assessment-related assignments. Work is on-site in Marion County; remote work is not available. The position is full-time, union-represented, and eligible for overtime. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional work beyond the normal schedule as departmental needs require. The hourly wage is $30.14–$40.38 for Property Appraiser 2 and $26.17–$35.07 for Property Appraiser 1. Property Appraiser 1 employees may auto-promote to Property Appraiser 2 after satisfactorily completing the required experience, knowledge, training, and special requirements. Marion County is a qualifying public employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. The County does not offer visa sponsorship.
